All Prince Georgians Encouraged to Engage in Volunteer or Virtual Community Activities on Dr. King Day - January 18
The Prince George’s County Council encourages residents to engage in volunteer or virtual community causes, on Dr. Martin Luther King Day, Monday, January 18, 2021, “The MLK Day of Service.”
Council Members are joining the national call for all Americans to make an ongoing commitment to community service and engagement. This year, the Dr. King Holiday - a federally designated day of volunteer service - will fall on January 18, the Monday before President-elect Joseph R. Biden, Jr., is inaugurated as the 46th President of the United States of America, and Vice-President- elect Kamala Harris, the first woman and woman of color to serve as Vice-President, is also sworn in.
Prince George’s County Council Chair Calvin S. Hawkins, II, says giving back to our communities is critical to their success, especially during these challenging times.
“At no other time in recent history has service to our communities been more important, and Dr. King’s Birthday is a great opportunity for us to support and uplift our neighbors and fellow citizens. Despite the challenges presented by COVID-19, nonprofits and communities are finding creative ways for residents to engage in community service safely, and in many cases from their own homes. We encourage our fellow Prince Georgians to help us honor Dr. King’s legacy by using this time to strengthen their own commitment to service.”
