As the federal government threatens to make cuts to healthcare programs, including Medicaid, the Prince George’s County Council, sitting as the Board of Health, will host a State of Your Healthcare meeting on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 to address concerns surrounding proposed reductions.
The meeting will feature presentations by industry experts, including Dr. Ryan Moran, the Deputy Secretary of Healthcare Financing and Medicaid with the Maryland Department of Health, and Tony McCann, a lecturer at the University of Maryland School of Public Policy.
According to the most recent available Health Department data, as of 2023, 22% of Prince George’s County residents are on some form of public health insurance, including Medicare, Medicaid, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).
“This is a challenging time for many of our residents, and when they hear about threats to the healthcare programs they deeply rely on, it can bring frustration, confusion, and fear. Our residents deserve better – they deserve a federal government and programs that work for them,” said Council Member Wala Blegay (District 6), the Chair of the Board of Health. “We are doing everything we can to help educate and advocate for the health and safety of all Prince Georgians. This meeting is an important step in that process.”
The meeting will begin at 1:00 pm Tuesday in the Council Hearing Room on the first floor of the Wayne K. Curry Administration Building, 1301 McCormick Drive, Largo, MD, 20774.
