Event will Serve 3,000+ Students and Families on August 17
Council Member Wala Blegay (District 6), in collaboration with Asia’s Angels and the Community Impact Center, will host the District 6 Community Day & Backpack Drive on Sunday, August 17, 2025, from 1PM to 7PM at the Marlo Furniture parking lot, 3300 Marlo Lane, Forestville, MD 20747.
The event is expected to serve more than 3,000 students and their families, providing free backpacks and school supplies, health resources, groceries, and an afternoon of live entertainment and community engagement.
“This is more than a back-to-school event,” said Council Member Blegay. “It’s about empowering our youth, strengthening our families, and coming together as a community. When we give our students the tools they need to succeed, we are investing in the future of District 6.”
The event will feature:
• Free backpacks and school supplies for 3,000+ students
• Free groceries and food bank services
• Health screenings, including immunizations
• KidZone with horses, face painting, foam and water fun
• Live music, DJs, Go-Go bands, and a special performance by Sugar Bear & EU
• Vendor Village, raffles, and giveaways
"I started curating these events to help children in need succeed in school and ensure they have the essential supplies to do so,” said Asia Chandler, founder of Asia’s Angels. “I wanted our children to know they are valued, loved, and supported by the entire community. This year, with the help of Council Member Blegay and the Community Impact Center, we’re making it possible for more families than ever to enjoy a day filled with joy, connection, and the resources they need to thrive."
