[ARCHIVED] Council Member Wanika Fisher Partners with Joe’s Movement Emporium to Host Girls Empowerment Event

District 2 Council Member Wanika Fisher Partners with Joe’s Movement Emporium to Host “Barbie” Girls Empowerment Event

Prince George’s County Council Member Wanika Fisher (District 2), in partnership with Joe’s Movement Emporium, will host a “Barbie” Girls Empowerment event on Saturday, December 9, 2023, from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Joe’s Movement Emporium, 3309 Bunker Hill Road in Mount Rainier.

The day’s event, developed for young ladies ages 11-17, will feature a “Think Outside of the Box” career session, welcoming professionals from various industries and backgrounds to share their barrier-breaking stories and inspire participants to make their dreams a reality.  The Maryland Comptroller’s office will lead a session on financial literacy, and there will also be an opportunity to participate in discussions focusing on issues that directly impact middle and high school girls, including self-esteem, self-care, communication, and conflict resolution.

“Empowering young women and girls to realize their full potential is our goal for this conference, said Council Member Fisher.  “We’ll have fun with music, dancing and entertainment, but we will also use this opportunity to share important tools with these young ladies that will inspire their imaginations and dreams for success.   And, of course, what is a Barbie event without a bit of sparkle?!   We will have that as well.  I’m looking forward to an exciting day!”

The Barbie Empowerment event is free; however, registration is required.  For more information, please contact the District 2 office at 301.952.4436.

Media is welcome and encouraged to attend. Council Member Fisher is available for advance interviews.
