County Leaders to Focus on Technology and Cyber-Related Trends during 2016 Summer Conference

The Prince George’s County Council will join over 2,000 stakeholders in Maryland’s county governments for the Maryland Association of Counties (MACo) Summer Conference, Cyber Solutions: Counties in the Digital Age, August 17-20, at the Roland Powell Convention Center in Ocean City, Maryland.

Council Chair Derrick L. Davis (D) – District 6, a conference attendee, says the MACo Summer Conference is an important opportunity for Maryland stakeholders to share ideas and best practices across jurisdictional lines.

“The safety of our residents is an ongoing priority for the Council,” said Chair Davis. “This year’s theme recognizes the need to directly address cyber security and its impact on our communities and the citizens we serve. This conference is particularly timely and the Council looks forward to collaborating with our colleagues across the state of Maryland on this important topic.”

The MACo 2016 summer conference will focus on digital trends, cyber threats, and technological solutions for county officials and professionals. Among many topics offered, participants can expect to see demonstrations of drones; hear from experts about autonomous vehicles; and talk about the implementation of texting 9-1-1. Additional topics include social media use and telecommuting for county employees; environmental updates; protecting children from cybercrime; and funding methods for technology.

MACo is a non-profit and non-partisan organization that serves Maryland county governments by articulating their needs and ideas to the Maryland General Assembly. The Association’s membership is composed of county elected officials and representatives from Maryland’s 23 counties and Baltimore City.
