[ARCHIVED] “CONVERSATIONS WITH CALVIN: MARYLAND’S BLUEPRINT FOR EQUAL EDUCATION" - SATURDAY, JANUARY 25

COUNCIL MEMBER AT-LARGE CALVIN HAWKINS HOSTS “CONVERSATIONS WITH CALVIN: MARYLAND’S BLUEPRINT FOR EQUAL EDUCATION”

Countywide Community Conversation to Focus on Kirwan Commission and Education Funding in Prince George’s County

Prince George’s County Council Vice-Chair and At-Large Member Calvin S. Hawkins, II, will host Conversations with Calvin: Maryland’s Blueprint for Equal Education” on Saturday, January 25, from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Harmony Hall Regional Center, 10701 Livingston Road in Fort Washington, Maryland.

Conversations with Calvin: Maryland’s Blueprint for Equal Education” will feature a presentation and discussion with Council Member Hawkins and Board of Education Chair Dr. Alvin Thornton on the future of education funding as it relates to the Kirwan Commission, and what the Commission’s recommendations will mean for Prince George’s County. The discussion will also focus on next steps, and the collaboration necessary to improve education and support our students and school system.

Council Vice Chair and At-Large Member Hawkins says education funding will continue to play a significant role in the future of Prince George’s County and it is important for residents to understand its impact.

“Education is an issue that impacts every Prince George’s County resident, whether you have school-age children in the home or not. We all have a role in making sure our young people receive the quality education they deserve, in school buildings that are safe and promote their best work, and with teachers who are adequately paid. How we achieve that is what Kirwan is about and what Dr. Thornton will help us discuss. I encourage residents to attend, bring your questions and concerns, share your experiences, and come ready for the conversation.”
