[ARCHIVED] PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY COUNCIL CONVENES RETREAT

The Prince George’s County Council today convened a Council Retreat focusing on economic development program tools, incentives and strategies, at Newton White Mansion in Mitchellville, Maryland.

Prince George’s County Council Chair Todd M. Turner (D) – District 4, shared the importance of the Council Retreat, discussing the County’s economic development challenges and opportunities.

“The Council Retreat served as a continuing conversation about the economic future of Prince George’s County. To best evaluate where we want to go, there must be a comprehensive discussion about where we are and a viable plan for reaching our shared economic development goals in the future. I want to thank my Council colleagues, County Executive Angela Alsobrooks and all of today’s presenters for their contribution to the discussion and we look forward to working collaboratively with each of them to move Prince George’s County forward.”

Chair Turner opened the Council Retreat by welcoming County Executive Angela Alsobrooks and her economic development team for an overview of her economic development goals for Prince George’s County.

“I want to thank the County Council for hosting this informative session that allowed us to come together and discuss our economic development strategies. I look forward to working collaboratively with the Council as we develop new tools and incentives to attract the quality dining and entertainment venues and businesses our residents want and deserve,” said County Executive Alsobrooks.

The County Executive’s remarks were followed by presentations on economic development incentives and strategies from leaders of the County’s Economic Development Corporation (EDC), Financial Services Corporation (FSC First), Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) and the Revenue and Redevelopment Authorities. Presentation topics included tools and incentives programs for major County investments, tax credits, and those available from the state of Maryland.

Council Members spent the afternoon engaging in discussion with agency officials while assessing the status and effectiveness of the County’s overall economic development efforts and strategies and plans for any potential adjustments to the County’s related programs.
