[ARCHIVED] COUNCIL MEMBER DENI TAVERAS AND THE GATEWAY ARTS DISTRICT CELEBRATE "GATEWAY OPEN STUDIOS"

Residents Encouraged to Participate in Region’s Largest One-Day Visual Arts Festival

Free Event Features Self-Guided Walking Tours of District 2 Studios and Galleries; Over 180 Artists, 100 Studios and 43 Venues Participating

Prince George’s County Council Member Deni Taveras (D) – District 2, and the Gateway Arts District will celebrate Gateway Open Studios – Spring 2019, the region’s largest one-day visual arts festival, on Saturday, May 11, 2019.

From 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., the event will offer self-guided walking tours of over 180 art studios, galleries and cultural venues located in the Gateway Arts District, along Route 1, in the towns of Mount Rainier, North Brentwood, Brentwood and Hyattsville. Visitors will also witness the artistic process and directly interact with artists in their studios. Additionally, there will be art openings and glass-blowing demonstrations. An after-party will be held at 3807 Rhode Island Avenue in Brentwood, Maryland from 5:00 -8:00 pm.

Council Member Taveras says this year’s event, which features more artists and venues than ever before, offers an opportunity for residents to participate in the region’s most prominent visual arts event.

“The Gateway Arts District is solidifying its place as an internationally renowned destination for galleries, emerging artists, and art lovers. Open Studios events continue to provide residents with an opportunity to experience the many visual and performing arts community offerings in District 2 while providing our galleries and studios a platform for displaying their work. We are looking forward to a great day, and I encourage residents to join us as we celebrate the arts in District 2.”

The Gateway Arts District, located in District 2, is the Metropolitan Washington region’s largest arts district, housing internationally renowned galleries, studios, workshops and art spaces.
