[ARCHIVED] Council Member Blegay to Host Community Jazz Brunch Honoring Margaret White’s 96th Birthday

On Friday, April 19, Council Member Wala Blegay (District 6) will host a special Jazz Brunch celebrating the 96th birthday of community icon, Ms. Margaret White—a beloved and tireless servant of the Millwood and Wilburn neighborhoods. The event will feature smooth jazz performed live by saxophonist Brian Lanier from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Walker Mill Middle School, 800 Karen Blvd., Capitol Heights, MD 20743.

Ms. White has led an extraordinary life of service, resilience, and leadership. She has received numerous awards from Prince George’s County leaders and organizations, including the International Medal from the Washington Center for Aging.

After raising three children, Ms. White pursued a successful career in healthcare, studying at the Duke University Hospital School of Nursing where she earned the highest test score in her class. Her remarkable professional journey included decades of service at D.C. General Hospital, Howard University Hospital, the Washington Center for Aging, and the D.C. Prison System.

Even after retirement, Ms. White continued her impact through real estate and civic leadership. Since 2004, she has served as the President of the Millwood Waterford Citizens Association, advocating for smarter growth and improved quality of life in her community.

“This brunch is more than just a celebration of jazz and community—it is a celebration of legacy,” said Council Member Wala Blegay. “Ms. Margaret White represents the very best of Prince George’s County, and we are honored to celebrate her 96 incredible years of life and service.”

Residents of the Millwood and Wilburn communities are invited to attend this uplifting and elegant event. The celebration will include music, brunch, and a heartfelt tribute to Ms. White’s legacy of excellence and community leadership.
