Committee hearing happening on Monday, June 3rd
Council Member Wala Blegay, Esq (District 6) has introduced legislation aimed at assisting residents in resolving disputes with their Homeowners Associations (HOAs).
Prince George’s County residents have voiced numerous grievances regarding their experiences with HOAs, including arbitrary rule enforcement, lack of transparency in decision-making, unfair fines, and difficulty resolving disputes. Many have expressed feeling powerless in the face of HOA decisions that directly impact their lives and homes.
Council Bill 31 seeks to address grievances by providing a structured and impartial process for resolving disputes between residents and their HOAs. By establishing a clear and accessible hearing process within the Common Ownership Communities Program, the bill empowers residents to address their concerns and grievances in a fair and efficient manner, reducing the need for costly and time-consuming court proceedings.
“This legislation represents a significant step forward in promoting harmony and fairness within our communities,” said Council Member Blegay. “The bill aims to foster cooperative and thriving neighborhoods by providing residents with a clear and accessible mechanism for resolving HOA disputes.”
