[ARCHIVED] Council Member Blegay to Hold Minority Business Enterprise and Nonprofit Symposium

Blegay says growth of MBEs and nonprofit organizations is a top legislative priority

Prince George’s County Council Member Wala Blegay, Esq. (District 6) will hold a Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) and Nonprofit Symposium on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. at the Bishop McNamara High School-Mona Center in Forestville.

The MBE and Nonprofit Symposium will provide attendees with an opportunity to enhance networking and outreach at the local and state levels through participation in discussions led by industry experts. Attendees will also gain valuable insight concerning county guidelines, nonprofit strategies, MBE collaboration, and grant approvals.

United Way of the National Capital Area President and CEO Rosie Allen-Herring will serve as the featured keynote speaker. Additional guest speakers include Bi-County Roundtable President and CEO and former Maryland Delegate Darryl Barnes; Economic Development Corporation Director of International Business Martin Ezemma; Maryland Department of Transportation Small Minority Business Outreach Manager Heather McCall; and FSC First President and CEO Dawn Medley.

Last year, Council Member Blegay authored legislation requiring county agencies to publicize procurement forecasts to ensure the required number of procurements from MBEs and SBEs are met. She also provided several grants to nonprofits seeking funding support for services and programs.

“This symposium is part of my continuing efforts to support minority businesses and nonprofit communities in Prince George’s County,” said Council Member Blegay. “These organizations are an essential part of our communities, and we must provide them with opportunities to learn, network, grow, and thrive so they can continue making an impact.”

This MBE and Nonprofit Symposium is co-sponsored by the Bi-County Business Roundtable, Bishop McNamara High School, the Bowie Innovation Center, Fair Chance, and the Prince George’s County Economic Development Corporation.
