[ARCHIVED] County Council Retreat 'One County, One Council - United We Thrive!' January 8 - 9

2024 Council Retreat to include Immersive Bus Tour of County’s Unique Communities

The Prince George’s County Council will conduct its Annual Legislative Retreat, “One County, One Council - United We Thrive!,” on Monday, January 8th and Tuesday, January 9th

For the first time, the Council’s annual retreat will feature a bus tour each day with stops in all of the County’s nine (9) Council Districts. The tour will provide an invaluable opportunity for Council Members to gain insight into neighboring districts while engaging with County leaders, business owners, and residents in the communities where they work and live.

Council Chair Jolene Ivey (District 5) looks forward to joining her colleagues for the tour as they lay a foundation for the new Legislative Year.

“The Council’s 2024 Annual Retreat is an opportunity for members to gain firsthand knowledge about the challenges and triumphs faced by each of our districts,” said Chair Ivey. “Our goal is to build bridges and strengthen relationships across district lines that will ultimately inform our decision-making and help shape this year’s legislative agenda.”

Vice Chair Sydney Harrison (District 9) is excited to work collaboratively with his colleagues this Legislative Year as they push forward to serve County residents.

“It is important that Council Members understand the challenges constituents face in districts across the County, and that we work together in a positive way to address those issues.  The Council’s annual retreat and two-day bus tour covering the County will help position us to achieve this important goal.”

Monday’s retreat agenda, scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., begins with a budget presentation in Room 2027, at the Wayne K. Curry Administration Building in Largo. The bus tour will include visits to the Laurel Multiservice Center, Kingdom Fellowship AME Church, Takoma Langley Crossroads Transit Center, WMATA Headquarters, and Restaurant 55 in Hyattsville.

Tuesday’s retreat agenda, also scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., will begin with an economic development presentation in Room 2027 at the Wayne K Curry Administration Building. Tuesday’s bus tour will include visits to Addison Plaza, Westphalia Community Center, Branch Avenue Metro Station Transit Area, Temple Hills Community Center, Brandywine Crossing, Matapeake Business Drive, and Liberty Sports Park in Bowie.

The Council’s 2024 Annual Retreat is an open meeting. Each stop along the bus tour will feature a presentation to Council Members, followed by a question-and-answer period. There will be no presentations during bus travel. Staff is happy to help facilitate interviews at any point during the two-day tour.
