Prince George’s and Montgomery County lawmakers, convening for the annual Bi-County Budget meeting at WSSC Headquarters on Thursday, May 11, 2023, unanimously adopted the FY 24 budgets for WSSC Water; and the bi-county portion and Central Administrative Services budgets for the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) and the Washington Suburban Transit Commission (WSTC). The Fiscal Year 2024 Bi-County budgets are effective July 1, 2023.
The Prince George’s County Council and the Montgomery County Council conducted their annual bi-county meeting in person for the first time following three years of virtual meetings due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Prince George’s County Council Chair Tom Dernoga and Montgomery County Council President Evan Glass presided over the meeting. Council Chair Dernoga thanked President Glass for his leadership, and recognized their successful collaboration to achieve the new spending plans.
“I want to thank you for your leadership. I think we got through this very well. I want to thank our staff, the Park and Planning Commission, WSSC, WSTC, and their staffs. I am just pleased that we are here, in person, and thank you for that.”
During Thursday’s joint session, both Councils approved the WSSC FY 2024 Operating and Capital Budgets of $1.6 billion, reflecting an increase of 7-percent for water and sewer customers.
Pursuant to the County Charter, the County Council, in its role as fiscal authority, must adopt a new and balanced spending plan for Prince George’s County on or before June 1.
