[ARCHIVED] COUNTY COUNCIL TO RECEIVE POLICE BRIEFINGS AND VISION ZERO UPDATE DURING VIRTUAL SESSION JANUARY 25

Police Briefing to Include Updates on Mental Health Facility, Status of Police Task Force Recommendations Implementation, and Staffing 

The Council’s Committee of the Whole (COW) and the Prince George’s County Council will convene virtually on Tuesday, January 25th

The COW is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. with 2022 Maryland General Assembly status updates, including statewide and local bills, and Maryland Association of Counties (MACo). 

Council session convenes Tuesday at 11:30 a.m.  The Invocation will be provided by The Reverend Colette Rice, Chaplain for the Prince George’s County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority in honor of the late Cheryl A. Hickmon, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. National President and Chair of the National Board of Directors, who passed away after a recent illness on January 20, 2022.  

Council Chair Calvin Hawkins invites the community to join in remembrance.   “In honor of President Cheryl A. Hickmon and her committed service, Reverend Colette Rice, Chaplain for the Prince George’s County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc, will conduct Tuesday’s Council Invocation. I encourage Prince Georgians, especially members of sororities and fraternities in the County, to join with us virtually, and express our condolences to her family, and to the sisterhood of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.”

Following Invocation, the Council will review proposed legislation and Proposed Correspondence to County Executive Angela Alsobrooks transmitting the Council’s Legislative Calendar and Appointments Schedule for 2022.   

A Police Briefing, scheduled to begin at 11:45 a.m. is also on Tuesday’s Council agenda, to include an update on the County’s planned Mental Health facility presented by Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for Health, Human Services, and Education, George Askew, MD, and status updates on the implementation of Task Force Recommendations and Police Department Staffing presented by Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for Public Safety, Barry Stanton; Chief of Police Malik Aziz; and other Police Department principals.  Council session will conclude with a Vision Zero briefing at 1:30 p.m.
