The Prince George’s County Council welcomes the appointment of Dr. Monica Goldson as the Interim Chief Executive Officer for Prince George’s County Public Schools. Today’s announcement of Dr. Goldson’s appointment by County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III, follows the Board of Education’s unanimous vote for Dr. Goldson to serve in this position.
The Council has established a productive relationship with Dr. Goldson, working together on a broad range of issues ranging from day to day maintenance, to our joint process of Continuous Business Improvement, routinely assessing the effectiveness of school operations.
Dr. Goldson is a solid choice, and her appointment as Acting CEO signals a collective commitment to a smooth leadership transition for our schools, ensuring that the more than 130,000 students enrolled in one of the nation’s 25 largest school districts, will be well-received when classroom doors open in September.
Educating our children to compete in a global economy is a critical element to the success of Prince George’s County. All the County’s education stakeholders must maintain a steadfast devotion to collaboration, continually identifying opportunities to strengthen public school system operations, management and accountability and commit to ensuring that our students are well prepared for higher education and the demands of the workforce in our growing economy.
As the County’s fiscal authority, the County Council is wholly vested in the success of our County’s school system, and in our budgetary oversight role, we will continue to work to ensure a return on County taxpayers’ significant investment in education.
