A senseless tragedy happened in Annapolis today, as employees were killed and injured in a terrible mass shooting in the newsroom of the Capital Gazette. The Prince George’s County Council grieves for the victims’ families, colleagues and friends, who bear an unspeakable loss. Through their tireless efforts and dedication, reporters play a critical role in our democracy and throughout our communities as they work to tell our stories. It takes courage to be a journalist. Even in the face of the horror at the Capital Gazette today, journalists bravely worked to report the truth of their own experience. The Prince George’s County Council also thanks the first responders whose extraordinary efforts today saved lives, and to everyone who is lending their support during this most difficult time.
