This
morning students from schools across the country, including Prince George’s
County, participated in National Walkout Day. In a call for action
that inspires Americans of every age, they left their classrooms for seventeen
minutes to remember each life lost at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in
Parkland, Florida, peacefully protest, and call for tighter gun
restrictions. As we remember all the lives lost to gun violence
nationally and locally, we are especially proud of our participating Prince
George’s County students for finding and using their voices as a catalyst for
change. Only together can we strengthen our community and the Council
looks forward to the community building work of our County’s newest activists
in the days and years ahead.
