“While we are disappointed to see the Commanders depart, Prince Georgians should know that we are committed to transforming the stadium site into something valuable for our community.

We are still going through the elements of the MOU and having conversations with representatives from the Commanders, but it appears they are committed to working with us to ensure the stadium site is not left blighted and abandoned, and instead becomes a vibrant new development that enhances the area and contributes to our economy, whether it be a new sports venue or mixed-use development.

The Commanders have been signaling for some time that this move was possible. The county tried to keep them here, but we also began to put plans in place in the event the team chose to leave. Our revitalization plans for the Blue Line Corridor will proceed without the stadium, and I believe what’s to come will be more uplifting and beneficial for residents.”
