This page is devoted to highlighting the policy issue areas covered by the Budget and Policy Analysis team. Each analyst is assigned to one of the Committees below and becomes familiar with the topics covered in each Committee. Below you will see additional information on each Committee and some subjects that analysts conduct research into.
- Government Operations and Fiscal Policy - Policies involved with how the County Government functions and the fiscal policies impacting the County. Overseen by: Government Operations and Fiscal Policy
- Annual review and amendments to Operating and Capital Budget.
- Oversight of financial tools, which includes Tax Increment Financing (TIF) and Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILOTs).
- County tax structure, general obligation bonds, and appropriations.
- Legislation focused on the structure of County agencies, procurement, and the administration of elections.
- Economic Development - Policies and initiatives that promote business growth, attract investment, and strengthen local economies. Overseen by: Planning, Housing, and Economic Development
- Strategic Planning and Zoning for Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) projects (See: New Carrollton, Largo).
- Review of the Economic Development Incentive Fund.
- Legislation aimed at supporting County-based and small businesses.
- Land use and development regulations for major commercial hubs and innovation centers.
- Education - Policies that focus on funding, programs, and policies impacting educational institutions and workforce training. Overseen by: Education and Workforce Development
- Review and monitoring of Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS) budget.
- Ensure compliance with Blueprint for Maryland's Future reforms.
- Oversight of school financing, construction, and outcomes.
- Review of funding for Prince George's Community College (PGCC) and the Memorial Library System.
- Environment and Transportation - Policies that impact infrastructure, public transit, climate resilience, and sustainable land use. Overseen by: Transportation, Infrastructure, Energy, and Environment
- Review and oversight of the Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T) projects.
- Review the implementation of the Climate Action Plan.
- Legislation focused on stormwater management, conservation, and traffic safety.
- Health and Human Services - Policies and fiscal issues related to public health, health disparities, and community support services. Overseen by: Health, Human Services, and Public Safety
- Review and oversight of funding for the County's Health Department.
- Legislation focused on the County's hospital system, aging population, and public safety agencies.
- Ensure public safety agencies are adhering to key performance indicators.
