Discussion on the fight to defend federal workers and next steps
As federal workers and their families face mounting challenges, Council Member Wala Blegay (District 6) is standing in solidarity and working to ensure they receive the support they need. The Council Member is hosting a Virtual Federal Worker Forum for all federal employees, stakeholders, and advocates on Thursday, February 27, 2025, from 6:00 to 7:30 PM.
This timely forum will feature Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (D-Md.), whose leadership in defending federal workers and protecting the integrity of the civil service is widely recognized. Congressman Hoyer will provide key insights into how Congress is responding to recent attacks on federal workers and the legislative efforts underway to safeguard their rights.
Council Member Blegay is also honored to welcome Otis Johnson, the National Vice President of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), who will offer valuable perspectives on the advocacy efforts of federal employee unions and the ongoing fight to protect workers' rights, and Walter Simmons, the founding President & CEO of Employ Prince George’s, Inc. and the Executive Director of the Prince George’s County Workforce Development Board.
This forum is a critical opportunity for federal employees and supporters to hear directly from leaders at the forefront of the fight for worker protections.
Participants must register in advance to receive the online meeting invitation. More than 300 people are expected to participate.
Council Member Blegay is available for interviews leading up to and after the meeting.
