Council Members to Hold Press Conference in Support of Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Bills

Council News Posted on November 14, 2024

On Tuesday, November 19th at 9:00 a.m., County Council Member Wala Blegay and Chair Jolene Ivey will hold a press conference in support of two bills that aim to provide critical electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure across Prince George’s County. The press conference will be held prior to a public hearing and final vote on the bills during the final County Council meeting of the legislative year.

CB-105-2024, proposed by Council Member Blegay and Chair Ivey, would require EV charging stations at all newly-constructed multifamily residential buildings, office buildings, and mixed use developments beginning in 2027. CB-67-2024, proposed by Chair Ivey, Council Member Blegay, and Vice Chair Sydney Harrison, mandates a minimum number of EV parking spaces, calling for 10% of parking spaces to be EV-Ready and 5% be EVSE-Installed.

The proposed legislation aims to move Prince George’s County in line with neighboring jurisdictions when it comes to EV infrastructure requirements. Supporters of the legislation from various community organizations will also be present for the press conference.

The Council meeting following the press conference will begin at 10 a.m., and dozens of bills will be eligible for a final vote. View the agenda HERE.
