Chair Ivey Honors 9/11 Victims, Encourages Unity 23 Years After Attacks

Statements from the Chair Posted on September 11, 2024

Today, we pause to remember the tragic events of September 11, 2001. Twenty-three years ago, our nation faced a profound loss. Nearly 3,000 innocent lives were taken, leaving behind grief that we still feel deeply today.

Here in Prince George's County, we lost some of our own. Residents of our community perished in the attacks, leaving wounds that even time cannot heal. Our community was also on the front lines that tragic day, with residents responding bravely to the call for help.

We honor the courage of the first responders who ran towards danger without hesitation. Many of them are friends, neighbors, and loved ones. Their bravery saved countless lives and inspired our entire nation. We recognize and thank our local heroes—those who serve as police officers, firefighters, EMTs, and others who continue to put their lives on the line to protect us every day.

We also honor the families who lost loved ones in the attacks. Your strength has been a beacon of resilience for all of us. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We will continue to support you and remember your loved ones, ensuring that their legacy lives on in our community.

As a community, we stand united, not just in mourning, but in hope and solidarity. We remember how we came together after that dark day, proving that even in our darkest hours, we can find light. This spirit of unity is a reminder of what makes Prince George's County strong and resilient.

Today, let's reaffirm our commitment to unity, kindness, and service to one another. By supporting each other, we honor the memory of those we lost. Let us carry forward their memory with pride, resilience, and a commitment to making our world a better place.
