Statement from Council Chair Jolene Ivey on Landover Triple Shooting
On February 28, 2024, tragedy struck our community with the heartbreaking news of a triple shooting in Landover. I am deeply saddened by this senseless act of domestic violence that took the life of an 11-year-old child and left a woman with serious injuries. Police say the shooter, the child's stepfather, went on to take his own life. I extend my deepest condolences to the families who are grieving.
In times like these, it's crucial for our community to come together in support of one another. Domestic violence is a serious and pervasive issue in our society, and we must work collaboratively to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents.
We are grateful to the Prince George's County police officers who arrived at the scene promptly, and commend their dedication to maintaining public safety.
While preliminary findings suggest this was not a random act and there is no immediate threat to the community, I urge anyone with information to come forward and assist law enforcement in their efforts.
