Council Member Blegay to Host Resource Fair for Laid-Off Federal Workers and Contractors

Council News Posted on May 06, 2025

In response to the growing number of federal employees and contractors recently laid off, Council Member Wala Blegay (District 6) is hosting a resource fair for those who have been impacted. It will take place Friday, May 9, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Greater Saint John Cathedral, 11425 Old Marlboro Pike, Upper Marlboro, MD 20772.

The event is designed to provide urgent support and access to new opportunities, including on-site hiring from up to 10 employers through a partnership with Employ Prince George’s, utility bill support, and food assistance.

“Many of our residents have served our country through federal employment and contracting work. Now that they’re facing uncertainty, we must stand with them,” said Council Member Blegay. “This resource fair is about more than assistance—it’s about restoring stability and hope.”

Impacted residents are strongly encouraged to register in advance here: https://bit.ly/FedWorkerResource

This resource fair is made possible through the support of Employ Prince George’s, The Storehouse, Impact Center, and other community partners dedicated to supporting workers in transition.

Members of the media are invited to attend and Council Member Blegay will be available for interviews.
