As rising utility costs continue to strain households, especially seniors living on fixed incomes, Council Member Wala Blegay (District 6) is working to provide relief and guidance. On Thursday, March 13, Council Member Blegay hosting a Senior Utility Savings Forum in partnership with M-NCPPC Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County. Nearly 200 people have RSVP’d so far.
This informative community event will begin at 11:00 AM at the Upper Marlboro Community Center, 5400 Marlboro Race Track Rd, Upper Marlboro, MD 20772.
These representatives from leading utility companies will be present to discuss discount & financial assistance programs, energy-saving tips, payment plan options, and consumer rights and protections:
- Will Ellis, Director of External Affairs, Pepco
- Branndon Jackson, Manager of External Affairs, BGE
- Daminique Branch, Senior Community Outreach Specialist, Washington Gas
- Carlos Salazar, Community Relations & Outreach Specialist, WSSC Water
Additionally, Michael Sammartino, from the Maryland Office of People's Counsel will explain why residents’ bills are so high and discuss actions being taken at the state level to address energy costs.
This forum is a vital opportunity for seniors and community members to gain direct expert insights on reducing their energy and water bills. Attendees will also have the chance to ask questions and learn about assistance programs that can help ease financial burdens.
