Council Member At-Large Calvin Hawkins Hosts Peace Walk and Community Clean-Up in Suitland

Council News Posted on July 25, 2024

Council Member At-Large Calvin S. Hawkins II will host a Community Peace Walk in Suitland on August 10th at 10:00 a.m. to promote a safer, stronger and more connected community. The walk follows a community meeting hosted by the Council Member earlier this month in response to a deadly shooting at the Village at Town Square that took the life of a teenager.

The walk is in collaboration with Making a Difference and Tre5Magic, who were in attendance at the July 3rd meeting. It will start at 4047 Silver Hill Rd, Suitland-Silver Hill, MD 20746 and end at 5600 Regency Lane, Forestville, MD 20747. There will be music, food, and community organizations to share resources.

“I heard neighbors’ frustrations and concerns at the meeting I held, and I want citizens to know that I stand with them and will do everything in my power to ensure their community is safe,” said Council Member Hawkins.

This Saturday, July 27th, Council Member Hawkins will join the Village at Towne Square Neighborhood Watch and Community of Re-entry Services (C.O.R.E.S) to beautify Suitland by picking up trash along the roads. The teams will meet at the courtyard at the Village at Towne Square at 8:00 a.m. and conclude the clean-up at 10:00 a.m. The goal is to not only beautify Suitland, but follow up and engage with community members.

Media is invited to attend both of these events.
