Shayla Adams-Stafford was elected to represent Councilmanic District 5 as a member of the Prince George's County Council on June 3, 2025. District 5 has a population of approximately 43,146 residents and encompasses the cities of Bladensburg, Cheverly, Edmonston, Fairmount Heights, Glenarden, Landover, Colmar Manor, Cottage City, Springdale and portions of Mitchellville, Bowie, Lanham, Hyattsville, and Landover Hills.
Council Member Adams-Stafford is the CEO and founder of AdaptiveX, a company dedicated to culturally responsive teaching and learning through racial equity that has trained educators in more than 20 school districts. With a decade of experience as a National Board-Certified Teacher and Coach, she has received recognition from the White House. She also founded RemixEducation, a non-profit providing youth development programs to more than 200 students. Council Member Adams-Stafford first ran for public office in 2020 and was elected to represent District 4 on the Prince George’s County Board of Education. As a member of the School Board, she created Equity Learning Hubs for the most vulnerable students during the pandemic and passed a budget amendment that allocated $10 million for underperforming county schools.
Council Member Adams-Stafford is a champion for initiatives that support seniors aging in place, advocate for affordable housing, drive economic development by fostering local businesses, enhance education through literacy and technology programs, and build thriving communities with access to health.
