CHAIR CALVIN S. HAWKINS EXPRESSES COUNCIL CONDOLENCES UPON PASSING OF JUNE WHITE DILLARD VARTOUKIAN AND HUSBAND JOHN VARTOUKIAN
The Prince George’s County Council extends its heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of Prince Georgians June White Dillard Vartoukian and her husband John Vartoukian, upon their passing.
We join all who honor their contributions to our community, and forever cherish the memory of Mr. and Mrs. Vartoukian, especially during their Celebration of Life on Friday, March 19, 2021.
Their vibrant life together reflected a shared love of family, music and the arts, travel, sports and entertaining. The couple met at Howard University Law School, where John, the son of Armenian immigrant parents, later taught. An author, he also published poetry and prose.
A devoted activist and public servant, June transitioned her law career from federal service to private practice with offices in Prince George’s County. Serving as president of the Prince George’s County NAACP, and president of the Prince George’s Arts and Humanities Council, she demonstrated a strong commitment to equity and social justice rooted in the belief that all people are entitled to equal rights, opportunity and fair treatment under the law.
The Vartoukians left an enduring impact on our community, and this Council, and the residents we serve, remain the grateful recipients of the abundance of knowledge, expertise, commitment and service that June White Dillard Vartoukian and John Vartoukian, unselfishly shared with all of us.
