DISTRICT 3 COUNCIL MEMBER DANNIELLE GLAROS SUPPORTS MURAL ARTISTS’ CONTRIBUTION TOWARDS ENHANCING COMMUNITIES AND EXPANDING FOOD OPPORTUNITIES

Local Artists and Students Create Murals on Refrigerated Storage Trailers for Food Donations in Greater Riverdale

Council Member Dannielle Glaros (D - District 3) applauds the efforts of Baltimore-based award-winning artist and educator Whitney Frazier, and other local artists, for their work with Kaiser Permanente to create murals on refrigerated food storage trailers to expand opportunities for food donation and delivery to Greater Riverdale residents.

The refrigerated food storage trailers, located at Christian Life Center in Riverdale, were purchased through a $24,000 contribution from Kaiser Permanente to Riverdale-based nonprofit, Sowing Empowerment & Economic Development, Inc. (SEED), which provides food and other resources to low and moderate-income families.

Council Member Glaros looks forward to welcoming the mural artists and students to District 3.

“These are very challenging times and the arts can enrich our communities and give us hope.  I am excited to welcome these talented mural artists to District 3 and look forward to seeing their work on full display in our communities.  I am confident that the storage trailers, when complete, will not only expand food donation opportunities in Greater Riverdale, but enhance and bring joy to our communities.”

In collaboration with the Greater Riverdale Cares initiative, a consortium of government leaders and local organizations focused on addressing food insecurity led by Council Member Glaros, Kaiser Permanente and SEED expect that the mural-laden food storage units will not only serve to expand access to healthy food in Greater Riverdale, but also will enhance the surrounding neighborhood.
