[ARCHIVED] Chair Davis Issues Statement Upon Passing of NBC 4 Anchor Jim Vance

The Prince George’s County Council, and the 900,000 residents we are privileged to represent, mourn the loss of longtime NBC 4 news anchor Jim Vance, a gifted and trusted journalist who was firmly committed to educating and informing our community.

Jim Vance was a commanding and transforming presence, much larger than the broadcast position he held for nearly 50 years.  On and off the air, he masterfully connected our community in his own unique, one-of-a-kind way.

The family and loved ones of Jim Vance are in our thoughts and prayers, especially during this tough time of such tremendous loss.  While we will never truly know the depth of their pain, we hope they find comfort in knowing that this Council and our community grieve with them.

Jim Vance inspired an era of journalism marked by strong, accurate, confident, consistent and straightforward reporting and commentary.   We also offer our condolences to Jim’s beloved NBC 4 Washington family, and a host of media professionals whose careers he encouraged and nurtured.

The Prince George’s County Council honors the life and legacy of Jim Vance. He was a joyful blessing and champion for our community, and he told our stories well.   We will miss the daily smile of our dear friend.
