DISTRICT 2 COUNCIL MEMBER WANIKA FISHER RESPONDS TO HYATTSVILLE HOMICIDE UNDER POLICE INVESTIGATION

Fisher Continues Her Fight for Safe Communities

“Last week, our District 2 community lost another Prince Georgian to senseless gun violence – 39-year-old Melvin Mayorga Hernandez of Hyattsville, a homicide victim who police say was fatally shot.  This is a painful time in our community as gun violence irreparably harms countless lives. As I offer my heartfelt thoughts and prayers to the family of Mr. Hernandez, I am continuing to combat the violence that claimed his life. As a Maryland State Delegate, I secured passage of gun laws that addressed background checks for long guns and prevented the sale and distribution of ‘ghost guns,’ one of the first such measures in the country.  As a Council Member, I am committed to working together with our residents for smart, progressive, and effective change in District 2 and across Prince George’s County, so we can all feel safe in our communities, regardless of zip code.  Anyone with information about the deadly shooting of Mr.  Hernandez should contact Prince George’s County Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS.”
