Edward Burroughs (D) – District 8 was sworn into office on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, following a Special Election to fill the District 8 Council seat left vacant in November 2021. District 8 constituent areas include Andrews Air Force Base, Camp Springs, Clinton, Forest Heights, Fort Washington, Glass Manor, Marlow Heights, Oxon Hill, and Temple Hills.
A lifelong resident of Prince George’s County, Burroughs is a graduate of Crossland High School. In 2012 he was elected by his peers to serve as the student member on the Board of Education, representing the interests of over 130,000 Prince George’s County Public School students. Following two one-year terms as a student member, Burroughs was elected to represent District 8 on the Board of Education in 2012, a position he held until his resignation in 2021.
Burroughs also worked in the Office of the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney, leading the youth court division and developing innovative ways to steer young people away from the criminal justice system. Most recently, he was appointed Director of Legislative Affairs where he played a key role in the development of crime prevention policies.
Burroughs earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Maryland Baltimore County, and is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
