The state-of-the-art facility will replace the 75-year-old Prince George's Hospital Center, constructed as part of a strategy to transform the County's healthcare system into an efficient, effective and financially viable healthcare delivery system, and designed to transform healthcare for residents in Prince George's County and the Southern Maryland region.
During a presentation to community leaders and residents on Saturday, July 22, 2017, University of Maryland Medical Systems (UMMS) representatives announced the new Regional Medical Center will soon be renamed.
The new hospital will be called the University of Maryland – Capital Region Health. (See full UMMS presentation under Related Documents)

This project, to be constructed in Largo, plays a significant role in the Redevelopment Plan of Largo Town Center as one of the first areas designated to be part of Downtown Prince George's, where business creation, job creation, and mixed-use center developments help create models for economic growth and development in the County.
